There has been a lot of research conducted to determine the impact of indoor air quality (IAQ) on life expectancy and what is called the burden of diseases (BoD).
BoD is measured by what is known as the disability-adjusted-life-year (DALY).
DALY
DALY was originally developed in 1990 as a time-based measurement combining years of life lost due to premature mortality and those lost due to time lived in less than full health.
IAQ in the European Union is believed to be responsible for approximately two million DALYs per year.
Lost healthy life
This means annually that the total estimated BoD attributed to IAQ is two million years of lost healthy life.
So, poor IAQ is reducing yours, your teams and/or your customers’ life expectancy potentially.
Workplace productivity
This is not only having an impact on how you and they live and how well we all are in our lifetimes and the quality of life we experience but is also impinging on workplace productivity.
According to French economists’ latest estimations, the cost of one DALY is 100 euros.
Therefore, it’s predicted losses resulting from inadequate IAQ are huge globally.
